Client’s Vision & Design Parameters: The home owners got in touch with CLA during site construction. They were in need of fine grading solutions and overall design layout that included safely addressing the stream that runs through the property.
Design Response: Stone and boulders were placed in a natural formation to support the front slope and the stream bank. The front walk and drive is softened into the landscape with curving edges and by choosing an exposed pebble stone concrete material. We used a large flat rock for the bottom landing along the front entry steps which is not only beautiful but helps tie the architecture to the landscape. In the back, the stone patio off the living room is a no-step egress with sight lines to the green lawn, which is artificial. The clients wanted low maintenance with green color year round and after discussing options artificial turf was the winning choice. The technology, texture, and look of artificial turf has come a long way from what the previous generation grabbed at the hardware store. The fire pit at the end of the the lawn is a repurposed steel ‘bowl’ that covered a large magnetic crane used in a railroad shipping yard.
